Membership Consultation Survey FAQ's
Following the release of our Membership consultation survey, the Torquay United Supporters Trust Board have put together the following FAQ's in response to the fantastic response the survey has already had from the Yellow Army.
1. Why is the Trust considering raising £100,000 per year?
The football club currently faces a projected annual loss of over £500,000 despite record-breaking attendances.
As a 28.65% shareholder in Torquay United F.C., we believe there is a strong case for aligning our annual financial contribution more closely with our ownership stake.
Our current annual contributions are approximately £30,000. We are consulting supporters on whether and how we could responsibly increase that figure.
2. Has a decision already been made?
No.
The purpose of the survey is to gather views before any formal proposal is developed. No changes to membership structure or subscription levels have been agreed.
3. Would this mean higher membership fees?
Not necessarily.
The consultation is exploring multiple potential routes, which could include:
-
Tiered membership options
-
Voluntary upgrades
-
New fundraising initiatives
-
Commercial or partnership activity
-
A combination of approaches
We are specifically asking supporters what they feel is fair and sustainable.
4. How would the £100,000 be used?
The aim would be to provide structured annual funding to the football club to:
-
Support playing budget competitiveness
-
Assist with key strategic projects
-
Strengthen long-term financial sustainability
Any funding agreement would be transparent and clearly defined.
5. How does this compare to other supporter-owned or part-owned clubs?
There are examples of supporter trusts making significant annual contributions at clubs with similar membership sizes — notably Newport County A.F.C.
We believe it is appropriate to explore whether we can follow a similar model — but only with supporter backing.
6. Why now?
Despite strong attendances and clear progress on the pitch, the wider football financial climate remains challenging — particularly in the National League South.
If we want to remain competitive and protect the long-term future of the club, we believe now is the right time to consult supporters about stepping up again.
7. I’m not currently a Trust member — can I take part?
Yes.
While the Trust represents its members, the future of the club affects all supporters. We welcome views from both members and non-members.
8. What happens after the survey closes?
We will:
-
Publish a summary of the findings
-
Outline potential options based on the feedback
No structural changes will be made without communication and transparency.

We kindly ask that you complete the survey by 6th March 2026.
