FAN ZONE BACK ON BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY
FOOTBALL FANS REJOICE AS MORECAMBE ARE SAVED
Two weeks tomorrow into the new National South season and one in which the Yellow Army has high hopes of the next successful chapter in the journey of the football club we all love.
There is no doubting that the Bryn Consortium with the help of the Supporters’ Trust have transformed the club from what it was under the previous regime to a club which values its supporters.
There continue to be many changes at Plainmoor, not all popular, but by being significant shareholders myself as the Trust chairman along with Danni Wyatt are able to bring any issues to the club’s attention, usually through CEO Mark Thomas.
As the supporters’ trust we have been pleased to give the club financial support on two recent additions, the extra hand rails in Bristows and two grow lights for groundsman Julian.
Those of you who attended the recent Fans’ Forum are now fully aware of the club’s current financial situation. And there’s a lengthy list of infrastructure items either needing repair or replacement. As the Trust we are proud of how we have helped support the club and to this end we have been updating our website and ask you to have a look at our achievements over the past few years.
You can go to: https://www.tust.co.uk/achievements. You may be surprised at the lists for each year.
We would very much like to grow our membership so if you know of a fellow fan who isn’t a member, it’s only £2 per month – and the bigger our membership the greater influence we can have.

Under Paul Wotton, the team have got off to a decent start, unbeaten after three games including ending our losing hoodoo at Maidstone.
There have been a number of individual outstanding performances against Enfield, Maidstone and Totton but momentum may be affected by a series of injuries, the worst being that tackle at Maidstone on Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, now out for at least three months.
It’s obviously too soon to get carried away and league titles are not won or lost in August. For tomorrow’s trip to Horsham Wotton has bolstered his squad with the arrival of one month loanee Josh Phillips, a winger, from Luton Town.

It’s back! Non-League Crowd Watch: matches from last Saturday and Tuesday night: Carlisle v Boreham Wood 8,731, Southend v Tamworth 8,112, Scunthorpe v Woking 4,412, Torquay v Totton 3,433, Hartlepool v Braintree 3,424, Truro City v York City 3,065.

The early Preliminary Round of the FA Cup is under way with Brixham, 4-3 winners over Mousehole and Exmouth Town, 2-1 winners over Buckland making it into the next round. Brixham take on Falmouth while Exmouth travel to Shaftesbury. And Tiverton, with Asa Hall and Dean Moxey have a home tie against Taunton Town who have in their squad Ben Seymour, Austen Booth and Chris Zebroski.

In a recent column I drew your attention to the new 8 second rule for goalkeepers and the 8 extra balls dotted around the pitch. Now there is to be a crackdown in the Premier League against the ‘dark arts’ – simulation, holding opponents in the penalty area at corners and free kicks and time wasting.

The opening day of the season saw the long- awaited return of the Fan Zone which attracted not only those coming to watch the football but also members of the local community. It was deemed a success and there’s another one on Bank Holiday Monday starting at 12noon. Come along and join in the fun plus grab a drink and refreshments before the game.

Those who attended Tuesday night’s fixture will be relieved to learn that that was the last time those floodlights will be used as following a grant from the Football Foundation Fund new LED lights are to be installed.
And plans are hopefully in place to replace the digital screen – more news on this soon.

Ever since a number of Trust board members visited Exeter City’s museum we have been keen to set up one at Plainmoor. This is a big project which will take a lot of planning but we are really pleased that the club has recently appointed Jon Gibbes as Torquay’s first ever official historian.

United’s Women are still in pre-season mode with training and matches while having a look at trialists; two recent signings have been announced – Georgie Knott and Katelyn Bell. Their first league fixture is Sunday September 7th.

There is rivalry on the pitch when teams play each other but when clubs are in trouble the football family comes together so it is with relief that Morecambe have been saved and will play their first match tomorrow; their fans once again have a team to support.
Safe travels to those going to Horsham tomorrow and let’s have a big crowd on Monday for the visit of Dover.
