HORRIBLE  HORSHAM,  HEMEL  AND  HAMPTON  AS  AWAY  FORM  DISAPPOINTS

LEARN  ABOUT  EX-GULLS  IN  WORLD  CUP  QUALIFIERS

UNITED’S  WOMEN  START  THEIR  LEAGUE  CAMPAIGN  ON  EMERGENCY  SIREN  SUNDAY

‘Hurricanes hardly happen in Horsham, Hemel and Hampton.’ With apologies to Alan Jay Lerner who wrote the original lyrics for My Fair Lady in 1956.

Well, there might not have been any hurricanes when United travelled to their last three away games but there certainly has been some degrees of explosive reaction after them.

In these days of social media and fans’ forums supporters are quick to publish their opinion on the manager, the owners and the players. This is all part and parcel of the modern world.

In recent times we have gone from a manager who aimed his words at the ‘wrong type of fans’, rarely gave away any behind the scenes issues to United’s current boss who often is too honest for his own good.

Wotton readily admitted that the display at Hemel was totally unacceptable and way below the standards he expects from his players, this following swiftly on the heels of a poor away performance at Horsham.

Last Tuesday night at Hampton saw a return to, at the very least, a 100% commitment from minute one to the last minute. Whilst a point was better than none but for two errors the Gulls could well have dented the home side’s impressive start to the season.

Nobody likes making excuses and Wotton doesn’t hide behind any but the facts are that at least six starters are currently out injured with hopefully one, or two, returning for the visit of Slough.

Let’s get back to the players doing the talking on the pitch.

The National South Manager of the Month nominations have been announced with Hornchurch’s Daryl McMahon, Hampton’s Alan Julian, Scott Bartlett at Weston-super-Mare and Lee Allinson of Hemel Hempstead.

Non-League Crowd Watch: Saturday and Mid-Week: Hartlepool 3,612, Macclesfield 3,030, Morecambe 3,001, Hereford 2,361, Truro 2,310, Wealdstone 2,309.

Another non-league manager parted company with his club this week, Matt Taylor at Solihull Moors.

York City swiftly installed Stuart Maynard with Steve Claridge taking over at Weymouth.

It’s always heartening and frustrating at the same time to see ex-players doing well, so step forward Jamie Reed for his goal for Northern Ireland against Luxembourg and for Wales Kieffer Moore.

Talking of former players, in the Hampton programme there was an article about their forthcoming FA Cup fixture against AFC Croydon Athletic for whom an ex-Hampton and Gulls’ favourite will be playing, Ben Wynter. Also on Croydon’s books is Kadell Daniel.

Here at Plainmoor we have our very own poet in Nick Wotton (no relation) who pens regular poems, his latest book of them being ‘Dartmoor Sunset In My Soul’ but the Hampton programme had one written about Torquay by RedBlueRobin with the second verse going like this:

‘Health and Happiness’ the motto which we all could get behind

Horizon looking rosier as their TUST is a glorious helping find

I am sure the dream of all is to get back to the promised land

But rest assured our Hampton boys won’t be giving you a hand

Well, it was good to be mentioned from afar!

Talking of TUST if you’ve yet to look at the club’s new website you’ll find running along the top a TUST button which when you click on it takes you to our website – underlines our growing relationship with the club.

The Yellow Army has been buying the current and replica kits provided by VX3 in huge quantities and it’s great to see so many worn on matchdays.

We are now keen to hear what non-clothing items you might like to see in the club shop as we head towards Christmas. Please mail your suggestions to fanszone.tu@gmail.com.

United’s Women’s fixtures are now out and the first date to look for is Sunday September 14th with a home game against Sherborne at Plainmoor with a 2pm kick-off.  Those with a Plainmoor Pass have free entry. The Women’s manager Ryan Perks has again been busy with three more additions to his squad who travel to Pucklechurch this Sunday for their opening match.

So, tomorrow for the men it’s Slough Town but come and join in the fun, food and drinks at the Fan Zone on the Green from 12 midday.

Now that we are into the international break we should soon be able to read Daniel Storey’s latest Torquay article in the i newspaper.

Spare a thought for any Truro fans supporting their side tomorrow – 878 miles round trip to Carlisle.

And finally don’t forget our phones will be sounding the test emergency alarm on Sunday at 3pm, hopefully that’s half-time for the women.
