TRANSFER  SPECULATION,  SIGNINGS  AND  A  CONTRACT  EXTENSION

LATEST  CHAIRMEN’S  CHAT  REVEALS  MORE  OPENNESS  AND  TRANSPARENCY

3UP  CAMPAIGN  WILL  IT  SUCCEED  AND  BE  VOTED  IN ?

There might not be any football at Plainmoor to watch but every day work for a club, even in the sixth tier, continues with plenty of activities to digest.

Fans, some of whom may turn to watch or play summer sports, remain loyal to their clubs and many indulge in speculating which players they hope the manager will sign. So, you can visit various social media sites to read the guesses.

Torquay have already brought in two new recruits in Munashe Sundire from Tamworth and Louis Dennis from Bromley with the promise of more announcements to come in the coming weeks.

Andy Peake, Tamworth’s manager, had this to say, “Nash has played a major part during his time with us. He has been given a fantastic opportunity with full time football which he wants to take.”

At the same time supporters are waiting for signings, for many it was the concern that maybe one or two of our young prospects might be the subject of transfer bids. So, it was with relief that Sam Dreyer was given, and accepted, a contract extension taking him to the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

It was probably no surprise that he and Jordan Young were in the Vanarama South Team of the Season.

Paint Up Plainmoor 2 has seen volunteers work on the away turnstiles to refresh tired and rusty equipment and at the same time the pitch has undergone its annual re-generation with new drainage added around the Family Stand area.

This week saw the club’s co-chairmen in an hour and a half chat with Dom Garrett Mee addressing a variety of topics in an open and transparent interview.

One topic of importance for many fans was about the process and reasoning behind the new Plainmoor Passes/Season Tickets.  Michael explained the financial background to this, increased NI costs, £12k a month on energy bills but acknowledged that the way in which some of the changes were communicated should have been better.

Despite this, at the time of typing a 1000 have been sold.

With more fan zones on match days, a pre-season fans’ forum, a very active and available supporter liaison officer plus the promise of a Family Stand experience to be announced, the club is trying to make sure all supporters are valued.

For our part, TUST led the appointment of Paul Bastard as SLO, with members’ approval we have agreed to fund the grow lights and we have also agreed to pay for Bristow’s additional hand rails.

This weekend some of the Bryn guys will be at Celtic Manor for the annual National League Congress which includes the AGM. One of the major subjects to be discussed is the NL’s 3UP campaign and who will replace Vanarama as league sponsors.

Many of you may have read the open letter published this week by the York City co-owner Julie-Anne Uggla to the National League about the club finishing second and 28 points clear of seventh place. Although it may seem like ‘sour grapes’ the letter does underline the urgent need for 3UP.

In the end congratulations to Oldham on their return to the EFL but they finished fifth, 23 points behind York.

The play-off system is known by every club before a ball is kicked but it does appear harsh on teams finishing second. In National South United finished second but fifth placed Boreham Wood were promoted.

On Thursday Plainmoor welcomed Mark Thomas as the club’s full-time CEO and as TUST chairman/ club director I have already welcomed him to his role and he will be joining us for our June board meeting.

As his appointment is a positive move, on behalf of all of us at TUST we would like to thank Joe Lovell for the crucial part he has played over the past year and Mark Lovell too. On a personal note, both Joe and Mark have been great sources for regular contact and I have really enjoyed working with them.

Are you one of the 500+ who have paid £10 a month for the 1899 Lotto? There’s still time to be in June’s draw on the 14th.
