UNITED  ON  SONG  AS  THEY  BANISH  AWAY  DAY  BLUES

CAN  YOU  SIGN  THE  3UP  CAMPAIGN  PETITION?

HOW  ABOUT  THE NON-LEAGUE  SIDE  WHICH  BOASTS  £132M  OF  TALENT?

Football and music often feel synonymous, music is played over stadiums’ PA systems and what about football songs which have charted?

There’s England’s 1970 World Cup team’s ‘Back Home’, Chelsea’s ‘Blue is the Colour’ 1972, Glen Hoddle & Chris Waddle’s ‘Diamond Lights’ 1987, New Order’s ‘World in Motion’ 1990, Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds 1996 and, of course, 1998 Fat Les with ‘Vindaloo’.

Some are more memorable than others to sing along to.

Back at Plainmoor, ‘Children’ by Robert Miles remains a firm favourite.

If I’ve missed your top football tune email me at fanszone.tu@gmail.com.

So, after a momentous week away, with the manager and squad under pressure to ‘sort out the away form’ and with apologies to the original artists, a new song could be Ray Charles’ classic ‘Hit the Road Paul’ or the Spencer Davis Group’s ‘Keep on Winning’.

Groan as much as you like but what you can’t take away are the two morale boosting wins at Farnborough where even their manager thought it should have been six or even seven and a class win at Maidenhead.

At last, the Yellow Army faithful who live away from South Devon saw the team that those who follow the club at Plainmoor see.

It’s a standard we now all want to see maintained as we close down the gap with leaders Hornchurch who lost their first match of the season at Chelmsford on Monday. That game attracted Chelmsford’s highest Monday league attendance since 1975 – 1,803.

Tomorrow is Non-League’s ‘Day of Action’ as the National League, all 72 clubs, plus those playing in the Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues, ramp up the ‘3UP’ Put Football First campaign.

All fixtures in these leagues kick-off tomorrow at a symbolic 3.03pm. Those extra minutes are significant as these clubs throw their support behind the drive to get a third promotion place into the EFL.

The National League gained its second promotion spot back in 2003, now the attention is on bagging that third spot into League 2.

As a football fan you can show your support by signing the ‘3UP’ petition at https://c.org/hc4pvBGc9m. At the time of writing over 5,000 signatures have been recorded over two days.

Tomorrow is also FA Trophy Day but here in the South West it has rained non-stop all day and evening, let’s hope the drainage copes.

The big question, regardless of the weather, is does a cup run enhance the league form or is it a hindrance?

I suspect there are mixed feelings about this. But who doesn’t enjoy a day out at Wembley?

Maidstone are the visitors making the long journey.

Non-League Crowd Watch: Southend v Carlisle 8,847, York v Rochdale 6,643, Scunthorpe v Yeovil  4,496, Morecambe v Sutton 3,650, Dulwich v St Albans 3,334.

Transfer News: One time Torquay target Sam Pearson moved this week for an undisclosed fee from Weston-s-Mare to Eastleigh to follow his Weston manager Scott Bartlett.

A couple of week’s ago I listed a number of recent ex-Gulls who have become managers and thank you to those who pointed out my omission of Kevin Hill at Exmouth Town where he is doing a great job. Kevin is always a pleasure to talk to when he pops in at Plainmoor.

Congratulations to this month’s 1899 Lotto winners as the draw is tonight. How about being in December’s for an early Christmas present? Go to https://draw.ourclublotto.co.uk/tufc/.

How would you like these former Premier League players with over 400 international caps and a combined value in transfer fees of £132m playing in your team: George Boyd, Papiss Cisse, Danny Drinkwater, Maynor Figueroa, Emile Heskey, Stephen Ireland, Joleon Lescott, Jefferson Montero, Oumar Niasse and Nedum Onuoha?

Well, they all line up for Wythenshawe Vets in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division Sunday League. And needless-to-say they are winning their matches.

United’s Women had another blank Sunday as their fixture with Saltash was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Finally, a date for your diary, TUST AGM Thursday November 27th 6.30pm in The Cove, Plainmoor.
