UNITED  FAIL  THE  MAIDSTONE  TEST  AS  DO ENGLAND’S  CRICKETERS

WHAT  WOULD  YOU  VOTE  FOR  AS  YOUR  RUN  OUT  MUSIC?

LEARN  ABOUT  HOW  LOCAL  CHARITY  KARING  IS  HERE  TO  HELP

A week after the event is anyone still disappointed that United were dumped out of the FA Trophy last Saturday?

Another home defeat, following close behind Hornchurch, was not what was wanted but it does seem to be that we find Maidstone a difficult team to beat. In fact, United’s record is pretty woeful. At Plainmoor we have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 6; away we have never won, drawing once and losing six.

Let’s move on.

On a brighter note the UK now has two sides going to next year’s World Cup as Scotland, confirmed after that spectacular 4-2 win over Denmark, will be joining England next summer. I’ve no doubt that after waiting 28 years for their country to qualify, plenty of Scots are still celebrating.

And there’s still a chance that either Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland could make the trip. Unlikely as it would be for all of them to be successful, maybe one could?

Last week’s Fans’ Zone had a musical feel and aside from mentioning football songs which have made the charts I referenced Robert Miles’ ‘Children’ played over the tannoy at Plainmoor. Reader Dave Sellman quite rightly took me to task to remind me that I had left out his favourite, ‘A Banda’ by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.

So, which one would you vote for as your favourite run-out music?

You can send your vote to: fanszone.tu@gmail.com.

Just to throw into the mix have a listen to another instrumental by American group The Fireballs and their single called ‘Torquay’.

If for some reason you feel like a change from football you can always turn your attention to The Ashes and follow the events of the First Test in Perth. Oh, hang on a moment……

Today’s Plainmoor visitors are Eastbourne Borough who finished one point behind United last season in third place having had a great season under manager, ex-Gull, Adam Murray but he then left to take over at Kidderminster.

Under new manager Matt Gray the Sports failed to win any of their first ten games and so he departed to be replaced by former boss Tommy Widdrington who quit his role at Aldershot Town.

Eastbourne arrive in Devon sitting uncomfortably in the relegation places. Surely this is a false position.

Yesterday (Friday) Aldershot defender Maxwell Mullins left by mutual consent to follow his ex-manager to Sussex.

Last Saturday’s ‘Day of Action’ for the National League’s 3UP campaign starting matches at 3.03pm was an attempt to keep the pressure on the EFL to consult their clubs as momentum continues to build to ensure there is three-up, three-down between the National Premier and League 2.

As a football fan you can support the campaign by signing the petition https://c.org/hc4pvBGc9m.

Over 10,000 have already done this so why not add yours.

United’s Women made further progress in the Red Rock Electrical Women’s Premier Cup with an emphatic 6-0 win over Plymton taking them into the semi-finals. Mollie Taylor (2), Tee Kaptein (2), Matilda Franchi and Emily Elliot on the score sheet.

I would like to draw your attention to Karing, as we at TUST like to promote local charities.  Based in Preston, part of Paignton, the Karing Voluntary Group has been in existence for over 40 years providing community transport for over 5,000 people per year to all types of medical appointments.

They have a group of volunteer drivers who give up their time to drive patients to appointments; many are retired and Karing are always looking for more drivers and volunteers.

If you are interested you can contact them either by email office@karing.org.uk or phone 01803 524799. They would be pleased to hear from you.

Their service runs 365 days providing a safe and comforting environment. They have a year-long calendar of social events and activities helping over 1,250 people combating loneliness, isolation, mental health issues and post-bereavement.

Karing has a High Street shop, office and café in Preston, opposite the Post Office.

No matter the result this afternoon, it’s back to Plainmoor next Tuesday night for the visit of Worthing, another tough game so your support is vital.

Two dates for your diary: Thursday 27th our AGM in the Cove or online starting at 6.30pm then Friday 28th there’s an evening with ex-Liverpool, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Wales striker Dean Saunders 7pm.
