DANNI’S  NIGHT  OF  WESTCOUNTRY  WOMEN  AWARD  HONOUR

WHAT  A  WEEK  AT  PLAINMOOR  10  GOALS,  STRIKERS  ON  FIRE  AND  WHAT  A  COMEBACK

HOW  ABOUT  A  VX3  TUST  T-SHIRT  OR  POLO  SHIRT  OR  MORE  FOR  CHRISTMAS?

This week’s fans’ zone kicks off with a huge success story away from events on the pitch.

The Westcountry Women Awards celebrate and empower extraordinary women across the region, recognizing their contributions and achievements in various fields.  Finalists from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset met at the Grand Final Gala at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth last night.

In a night of celebration, connection and inspiration, highlighting the remarkable contributions of women across the West Country we at TUST are overjoyed to congratulate our very own Danni Wyatt on winning the Women in Sport Award for her outstanding work with Torquay United.

Danni, her award chosen by Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, has been the driving force behind the women coming under the club’s umbrella and playing fixtures at Plainmoor.

She has shown herself to be a fine ambassador of the club in her dual role as Head of Women’s football and a club board director.

On the pitch United’s women returned to league action last Sunday with a 4-1 win at Poole Town with goals from Mollie Taylor (2), Tee Kaptein and Lily Hilton.

Tomorrow (Sunday) you can see them in action at Coach Road (2pm).

Last Saturday was one of those football days when everything went right as United were two goals away from equalling the record win, 9-0, over Swindon Town in March 1982.

Thanks to Torquay Fan Stats for the following data: United’s 7-0 victory over Eastbourne is the fourth time this scoreline has been achieved while United have been beaten 7-0 on four occasions.

How would you feel making a round trip of around 500 miles to support your team and watch them beaten 7-0?

This was the fate of 45 from Eastbourne whose players decided to re-pay their entrance money. Mind you their return rail fare would have been £172.

The gesture actually raises the question, should fans expect to be re-imbursed every time their team loses heavily?

Talking of numbers, only 48, again from Sussex, made the Tuesday night trip from Worthing to support their team who had won their previous eight league matches, their last defeat coming on October 4th 1-0 at Maidenhead.

Back to Eastbourne, United were unplayable with Dennis proving a real menace, notching a superb hat-trick with Jordan Young deserving one too along with Dylan Morgan but they ‘only’ had two each.

Tommy Widdrington, Eastbourne’s manager said afterwards, “Best side I’ve seen this season…..they should have scored more.”

Then to Tuesday night and what character to come back from 2-0 down inside the first 20 minutes. As fans we have to say that on current form in Dennis and Young we have the two outstanding forwards in National South. Don’t take my word for this as Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood says so too!

Dennis’s footwork and eye for goal are sublime; his second on Tuesday to win the game was magic and with a hamstring strain he’s not even fully fit!

This afternoon it’s a long and tiring journey to Chelmsford after setting off early but at least with two new recruits, Kieran Wilson a striker from Exeter City joining Sonny Sharples-Ahmed from Bolton.

Non-League Crowd Watch: Southend 7,883, Aldershot 4,279, Scunthorpe 4,062, Torquay 2,952, Dulwich Hamlet 2, 685.

Manager Watch: Yeovil sprang a surprise earlier in the week by appointing Walton & Hersham, top of Southern League South Premier, manager Billy Rowley.

Meanwhile Alan Devonshire, who I featured recently, is to step down as Maidenhead’s manager after their match today home to Chippenham. His team did him proud winning 6-0 at Salisbury on Tuesday.

Have you signed the 3UP Campaign petition yet? 10,509 have and you can join them to urge the EFL to grant a third promotion place to National League clubs by going to: https://c.org/hc4pvBGc9m.

For those who can’t travel to the following United away games they will be screened on TV by DAZN: January 3rd at Dover, February 10th at Chippenham and February 24th at Worthing.

On Thursday a number of you joined us in The Cove either in person or online for our AGM. Thank you for your support, questions and suggestions.

You can now show your support of TUST in a different way by buying our new range of TUST VX3 merchandise on sale online at Torquay United Supporters Trust – VX3.

Maybe to add to your Christmas list?

Congratulations to Helen Mulligan whose TUST membership number was picked at random at our AGM by members of the board to win our TUST VX3 Club Shop launch competition.  Helen will be the lucky recipient of either a TUST VX3 T-shirt, Polo Shirt or Cap of her choosing.

Finally, a well- deserved tribute to 50-50 seller Ann Shepherd in this week’s Torbay Weekly.
