HATS OFF TO UNITED'S WOMEN AS THEY HIT ASCOT FOR SIX
WOULD YOUR 5-7 YEAR-OLD LIKE TO DRIVE THE BMW ONTO THE PLAINMOOR PITCH?
The season might only be four games old but two blank returns and one point are not what United fans had hoped for.
On a warm Tuesday night Jimmy Ball’s team tried to batter the Weston door down while on Saturday a dagger to the heart saw United leave East London pointless.
Cue a very frustrated and disappointed manager whose two post- match interviews summed up his feelings.
Early days maybe but not the start that was wanted.
Weston, the then league leaders (after only two matches) came to put eleven behind the ball every time Torquay had it, which was often and at the final whistle celebrated as if they had won a famous cup tie.
Football’s a funny old game, somebody once said, and Weston who had kept three clean sheets proceeded to ship three to Dover yesterday and lose.

Saturday’s trip to London pitted Ball against former Hemel manager Lee Allinson’s unbeaten Dagenham (the newest league leaders) who, in the end, had a comfortable victory.
One imagines that the coach journey back to Devon was a quiet, reflective one.
No team, whatever the level they play at, has a divine right to just turn up and expect to win. Whilst it’s too early for alarm bells to be ringing, it’s beginning to be a concern that Ball’s revamped strike force has failed to ignite.
For all his undoubted energy Westendorf needs to get off the mark while Moore might have been credited with that goal against Horsham – in truth it was most likely an og –but he basically hasn’t troubled the scorers, as they say in cricket.
What’s to be done?
Stock answer from managers is usually "more work on the training ground".

United’s Women first home league game at Plainmoor, watched by 214, saw them hit six without reply against visitors Ascot United.
As a contest the match was over by half-time with United four goals ahead. Scorers for the afternoon: Ella-Mae Miller, Beth Everson (2), Brooke Ellis and two from Connie Pengelly.
They are next in action in the League Cup on Tuesday evening against Bridgwater at Buckland.
And we still have Roxy Thomas in our thoughts as she battles to overcome her brain tumour.

Can you help?
We’re asking our members if you can be available to join a group of helpers, on a rota basis, to help with putting up and putting away our gazebo and helping man it at the club’s fan zones. We typically set up the Gazebo on Saturdays at 11:30am & it is packed up by 2:30pm. Any help is appreciated throughout the afternoon.

Junior Gulls Section
We currently have 31 Junior Gulls signed up which is a great start but we’d like a lot more.Maybe your 5-16 year-old or your grandchildren would like to join? We are running a poem competition with four £25 One Year memberships to the winners as prizes and the closing date is this Friday August 28th.
We have had several entries so far from ages 5 to 14 so there’s still time to enter.
